Contact Lens & Fittings

Contact lens fittings

Our doctors provide contact lens assessment and fittings for conventional, daily disposable, 2 week disposable, monthly disposable, toric (astigmatism), and extended overnight wear contact lenses. Follow-up visits will also be scheduled to ensure a high standard of care. Our assistants and technicians provide complete training on care, handling, as well as insertion/removal techniques.

CONTACT LENSES

Contact lenses can be a great alternative to glasses for correcting your prescription. They can be used to correct nearly any type of prescription, near-sighted, far-sighted, astigmatism, and presbyopia. Our Doctors of Optometry provide contact lens fitting exams and contact lens training sessions that are performed by a trained Optometric Assistant. Patients wearing contact lenses should have a comprehensive eye exam at least once per year.

SOFT CONTACT LENSES

The most commonly prescribed contact lens is a soft contact lens. It is made of a flexible plastic that sits on the surface of the eye. It is important that these lenses fit and center correctly and have a small amount of movement. If the fit is not proper, contact lens wear can be detrimental to the health of the eye.

  • DAILY CONTACT LENSES:

Daily Contact Lenses can be fit for full-time contact lens wearers and part-time contact lens wearers. It is a contact lens that is worn for the day and then thrown away when removed from the eye. There is some limitation to the type and amount of prescription that can be corrected with daily contact lenses.

  • MONTHLY CONTACT LENSES:

Monthly Contact Lenses are most optimally used by full-time contact lens wearers, those who wear contact lenses at least five days per week. A monthly contact lens is worn for the day, taken out at the end of the day, is cleaned and stored, and inserted again the next day. They are thrown out on a monthly basis. It is important that monthly contact lenses are cleaned and disinfected at least every 48 hours and thrown away at the appropriate time to discourage the growth of bacteria on the lens that may lead to serious infections.

  • CONTINUOUS WEAR CONTACT LENSES:

Continuous Wear Contact lenses are a monthly contact lens, thrown away once per month, and can be worn and slept in for thirty continuous days. Not everyone is a candidate for continuous wear contact lenses. Your Doctor of Optometry can help you determine if they will work for you.

  • QUARTERLY OR YEARLY CONTACT LENSES:

These contact lenses are rarely used. They are generally reserved for patients with high or complicated prescriptions.

HARD CONTACT LENSES

Hard contact lenses are made of a rigid plastic. They are generally used for patients with high amounts of near-sightedness or high amounts of astigmatism.

  • RIGID OR GAS PERMEABLE CONTACT LENS:

These lenses are made of a hard plastic and sit on the surface of the eye. The comfort of these lenses may be difficult to adapt to but they provide superior vision for patients with high amounts of correction.

  • MINI-SCLERAL CONTACT LENSES:

Mini-Scleral Contact Lenses are made of a hard plastic. They “vault” the front surface of the eye and are very comfortable. This is an excellent choice for hard to correct prescriptions, such as high astigmatism.
