There are many considerations and measurements needed when choosing appropriate eyewear. 

• Pupil Distance is the distance between the eyes. It should be measured every time glasses are made. This is especially important for growing children and adolescents.
• Segment Height is the measurement required when fitting bifocals, trifocals, and progressive lenses. It marks the area of the lens where the additional power needed for near tasks starts. 
• The Optical Center is measured to determine the most accurate part of the lens and, in most cases, is right in front of the pupil of the eye. It is an important measurement for high or complex prescriptions and for prescriptions being used for myopia management. 

In addition to proper and accurate measurements, there are varying lens designs that may be recommended based on your lifestyle, job, and hobbies.

• Single Vision lenses have the same ophthalmic power throughout the lens. 
• Bifocal lenses have two powers in the lens, one for distance and one for near.
• Trifocal lenses have three powers in the lens, one for distance, one for near, and one for intermediate distance.
• Progressive lenses have a variation in power from the top to bottom of the lens. This design allows a gradual and more natural progression of power from distance to near.
• Task specific lenses are great options for patients that spend a lot of time at computer tasks or have hobbies like piano playing or woodworking. Our Optometric Assistants can advise you of your options based on conversations about your lifestyle and hobbies. 
• Polarized or Tinted Lenses can be made in your prescription to help with light sensitivity and sun protection.
• Antireflective coatings are designed to reduce glare coming into the eye. The options and advancements in these coatings is always changing and improving. Our Optometric Assistants can advise on an appropriate coating for you lifestyle and needs.
